2012’s Top Skin Innovations & Discoveries

Posted in: Acne with

As the end of the year approaches, we’re always inspired to look back and reflect on new skin innovations and discoveries. This year has brought quite a few advances that have changed the way we seek better skin, so we thought we would share the top 3 and talk about how they will change your skin routine.

1. Skin Cancer App Warning  – These days we can do just about anything with smart phones, so it’s no surprise that there are now apps to help you maintain healthy skin. And there are several applications that reportedly help you “spot skin cancer,” however, according to a recent report these skin cancer apps put consumers at risk for delayed or inaccurate diagnoses. It’s best to see a doctor in person for medical advice – not to rely on your phone.

2. Adult Acne– According to the AAD, cases of adult acne are on the rise – especially for women.  45% of women from 20-29 experience acne, while nearly 12% of women between the ages of 41 and 50 reported having acne. From stress, to hormones that come with age, there are multiple factors that contribute to the increase in adult acne. Luckily there’s a solution! Bioelements Acne Clearing System  is a gentle, but effective way to treat acne and was just named ‘Favorite Acne Line” in the 2012 Professional’s Choice Awards.

3. Skin Healthy Snacks – Sometimes skin innovations come indirectly. While we’ve known for a while that citrus fruits contain Vitamin C – a great source for building collagen and protein – Dale Atkins, PhD, author of Sanity Savers, says that snacking on them can also help you de-stress. Stress causes your body to produce the stress hormone Cortisol which, in turn, can increase the production of acne-causing oil and decrease the skin’s ability to repair itself. So, snack on an orange and add a dash of lemon to your drinks to de-stress your way to better skin.

From phone applications to light bulbs, unexpected skin innovations in 2012 have changed the way we treat and care for our skin. Have questions about how this year’s advances can help you get better skin? Ask us in the comments!
