Restorative Clay: A Skin Care Treat(ment)
It’s mid-summer and the sun and un-related stress has taken quite a toll on my skin. After a month of being busy at work and playing hard outdoors, I need a little relaxation as well as a restoration for my sensitive skin.
Since I didn’t have time for a traditional spa treatment, I decided to a little at-home skin care treat: Bioelements Restorative Clay mask. This clay-based, 10-minute mask is meant to deep-clean pores, smooth skin’s texture, increase microcirculation and absorb excess oil while boosting surface moisture. I apply the mask right before a relaxing bath and the steam from the bath helps to open my pores.
When I first applied the clay mask, it had a cooling sensation, but as the mask naturally hardened, I felt increased tingling and a noticeable tightening of the skin. The feeling wasn’t unpleasant for me, but I did get the sense that it was doing something important.
The mask uses kaolin, a clay mineral, to absorb oil, chamomile to sooth and calm skin, and ginseng, gotu kola, dong quai are strengthening and balancing ingredients.
After about ten minutes, I gently wash away the mask with warm bath water. I use my mask about once a week and the directions advise no more than three applications per week.
After using the mask I have noticed brighter, more dewy and even-textured skin. It’s a great product that helps relax as well as restore and perfect when you’re in a time pinch.
