Your skin is Very Dry / Dry if:
|
Did You Know? All skin has a “Natural Moisturizing Factor” - a balance of water and oil that helps keep natural moisture intact. Dry skin lacks the oil necessary to ensure this balance, leading to a thin texture and a tendency for premature age signs like wrinkles. |

Your skin is Combination if:
|
Did You Know?Combination skin is truly a blend of both dry and oily skin – the t-zone experiences oil while the cheeks and outer perimeter of the face experience dryness. A balance is needed to treat both areas effectively, without causing the dry areas to become drier or the oily t-zone to become oilier. |

Your skin is Oily/Very Oily if:
|
Did You Know?Oily skin is often misinterpreted. Sometimes skin acts oilier than it is, especially if overly-emollient products are used. Some Oily skin types may think their skin is Combination or Dry when harsh cleansers and surface-dehydrating astringents are used, temporarily drying-out the skin (which can cause skin to produce even more oil to compensate). |

You have acne prone skin if:
|
Did You Know?Acne occurs when hormones prompt your oil glands to produce excess oil and a rapid shedding of skin cells in your pores. The pore becomes clogged by trapped oil and dead skin cells, creating a perfect breeding ground for irritating acne bacteria. As your skin tries to deal with the bacteria, it becomes inflamed, causing a full-blown breakout. |

Skin type is based on the skin’s oil production. But sometimes, there are misinterpretations of oily versus combination skin – especially when the wrong products are being used. Residual oil can be left behind by overly-emollient cleansers intended for drier skin types. Too-rich moisturizers can leave combination skin slick and shiny-looking.
Reverse this scenario and you have oil-rich skin types reading their skin as combination or dry because they are using harsh cleansers and surface-dehydrating astringents. The overly dried-out surface skin begins to crave moisture and hydration. It’s oily skin acting as if it were dry.
Determine your skin’s true oil production level by figuring out how long it takes to experience visible oil after your initial morning cleanse. Use a gentle, oil-dissolving cleanser like Decongestant Cleanser and rinse off. Apply a lightweight sunscreen like Sun Diffusing Protector SPF15 and gently blot face with a tissue. Do not apply any other products. If your entire face gets oily within a few hours, you definitely have Oily skin. If only the t-zone gets oily, you are a Combination skin type.
Serums are lightweight formulations intended to deliver a high dosage of targeted ingredients or antioxidants. Think of them as an extra anti-aging or hydrating boost you layer under your moisturizer. And there’s a serum for pretty much any skin care concern you may have.
For example, dry skin can get an extra boost of hydration from Moisture x10 to improve the look of fine lines, and improve the efficiency of moisturizer; Sensitive skin will love the soothing feel of Stress Solution; Recovery Serum is ideal for any dry skin that wants a makeup primer that’s good for their skin; Probiotic Anti-Aging Serum will help become more age resistant; and any skin dealing with environmental stressors and free radicals will want Urban Detox.
Have acne? You always hear that you should never try to “pop” pimples yourself – but do you really know why? The truth is that only a licensed, trained skin care professional should perform extractions. It’s real, it’s serious, and it’s the difference between skin that’s clear and unblemished, and skin that may be scarred and infected. Here's why:
Your skin must be adequately prepared prior to extractions, involving more than just washing your face. A skin care professional has the right professional products, tools, and the sterile environment to work in. She also has in-depth training on what is okay to extract and what is not okay – this is invaluable knowledge. When you attempt to pop a pimple on your won, all it take is one misstep, and you can spread infection, causing bacteria to re-invade the pores and bring on even more breakouts, It can even lead to permanent scarring. So leave it to the pros, and minimize breakouts by dabbing on an emergency blemish lotion with Benzoyl Peroxide.
