The digital skin care mail bag: Oily Skin Facials, Anti-Aging for Sensitive Skin, & AHAs

It’s time once again to open up the skin care mail bag and take a closer look at some of the great questions my team of skin care professionals and I have received recently from the SkinReading blog, our Bioelements Facebook and Twitter pages, the skin care professionals we teach from coast-to-coast, and even people who stop me on the street! You’ve got questions… we’ve got answers:

A: What is the best Bioelements facial for very oily skin?

Q: If your skin is Oily to Very Oily, then the Bioelements Custom Blend Facial is ideal. Your skin care professional will customize it in the treatment room with drops of our exclusive Custom Blend Additives – lab-strength ingredients, botanicals and aromatherapist oils that will zero in on excess oil, breakouts and visible pores. The facial includes Bioelements Cleansing Massage (see a demo of the facial in the video below), Exfoliation, Custom Blend Massage, Power treatment and Power Mask. After just one facial, your skin will feel incredibly clean, smooth and noticeably less oily. Find a Bioelements Spa near you where a skin care professional can create your Custom Blend Facial here.

Q: How we can treat sensitive or sensitized skin for aging…. lines and wrinkles to be more specific.

A: This is a great question. Bioelements Sensitive Skin Cleanser, Calmitude Hydrating Solution, Calmitude Sensitive Skin Moisturizer, and Stress Solution products do more than address issues with redness and sensitivity. Whenever you use products like these that gently cleanse, tone, hydrate and soothe the skin, you are helping it to perform at its best. These products work together to soften fine lines, keep the skin hydrated and plump – while balancing the skin’s protective barrier. The result? Lines and wrinkles will naturally be less visible, and skin will be softer, smoother and more vibrant. The ingredients we use ‘feed’ the skin and protect it – we are helping the skin help itself, which will make it stronger – that’s the true definition of ‘anti-aging’.

Q: Is it okay to use Quick Refiner under Sleepwear? My concern is that Sleepwear contains retinol and quick refiner contains alpha hydroxy acids. Is this too much exfoliation?

A: Unless you have a very Sensitive Skin type, it’s great to use Quick Refiner under your Sleepwear. You could start by applying Quick Refiner every other night for the first week, and then if your skin shows no sign of sensitivity, you should be fine to use it every night. But make sure to use a broad spectrum SPF every day!

I rely even more on Calmitude Sensitive Skin Products as I recover from winter flu with use of antibiotics plus always when I travel away from home. Changes in weather, water , and different environments my skin is not used to. Calmitude products always support my skin to look and be in the best condition possible. Now if they could improve my sleep…..

I can’t seem to find the “correct” answer. I live in Canada and just ordered the decongestant cleanser, equalizer, beyond hydration Moisterizer and the all things pure scrub for my oily skin. But what is the correct order to use these products when I am also using the scrub? Is it best to exfoliate in the morning or at night? And how often is it best to exfoliate when these are the only products I am using on my face?

Hi Jenna – Start by cleansing with Decongestant Cleanser, then spritz with Equalizer, and follow with Beyond Hydration. Use this as your AM routine. (I’d also recommend adding in a broad spectrun sunscreen to help fight aging and protect your skin from damaging UV rays). At night, add in your All Things Pure Scrub 2-3 times a week. You can use it right after you cleanse, then follow with your Equalizer and Beyond Hydration.

What can I add if the Calmitude Moisturizer is not enough. Seems like I could use a cream as my face is so dry. Have Sensitive skin and use the proudcuts for Sensitive skin. Just need MORE moisture.

Hi Lisa – Try applying Moisture x10 or Stress Solution first, before your Calmitude Sensitive Skin Moisturizer. Moisture x10 is formulated with hyaluronic acid, which will bind moisture to your skin; Stress Solution will help lock in and prevent moisture loss – it also provides extra soothing for sensitive skin.

What is the protocol to obtain the most effective chemical peel results? I am using the extra strength alpha blend. Can layering be done and should steam be used? What is the maximum time the solution can be on the face?

Best results with any peel will always start with a Bioelements SkinReading to determine whether the client can handle an Extra-Strength Alphablend Peel. We don’t recommend this product for a first-time client. But, let’s assume that they have already had a facial with Lactic-Plus Peel and with Alphablend Maximum Exfoliant and you have now determined that they need something stronger. At this point, you will still follow the Bioelements Custom Blend Facial step-by-step which says: Apply to entire face with a dry treatment brush, avoiding the eye and lip area. Apply cotton eye pads moistened with Soothing Eye Pad Solution and lave on for 5 minutes. Remove with gauze and water. Then blend Softening Gel and Emergency Soothing Powder to create the Comedone Removal Prep Mask. This mask will help calm the skin down post-peel and also prep the skin for extractions. Following these guidelines will help ensure best results with no down time. Layering is not necessary as you have already exfoliated with a physical scrub during the cleansing phase of this facial, which is performed under steam.
